Note the relatively few, unevenly distributed perforations created by dermal needling rollers. Compare that to the “cat-scratch” effect created by the typical microneedling pen.

The mechanism of action of microchanneling is NOT damage to dermal tissue, but rather stimulation of the keratinocyte layer. Therefore collateral damage done in the dermis, or even the epidermis is considered counter productive.
