A Skin Care Regimen for Any Age

At Mountain Coast Distributors we work with thousands of the most experienced skin care specialists in the country. We’ve compiled some basic recommendations for anti-aging, corrective skincare, and for taking care of your skin every day, at every age.

When you’re in your 20’s
You may love spending lots of time outdoors in the sunshine, and sure, you feel indestructible, but the signs of premature aging are lurking just below the surface of your skin! You are at an age when various organelles begin to age prematurely. Dermal/Epidermal (D/E) adhesion begins to break down and fine lines can begin to form around your mouth and eyes. The rate of epidermal cell turnover is beginning to decrease so it’s time to begin PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE!  Drink at least 8 ounces of water in addition to your regular daily intake (above what you drink with meals, exercise etc.) to maintain hydration in your skin. Avoid sleeping with makeup on to keep your pores free of blockage. A clean face at bedtime will prevent breakouts and is the first key to avoiding premature aging. You should be visiting an aesthetician a few times a year for a facial. Gentle microdermabrasion and microneedling with short needles, (0.25mm) along with anti-inflammatory cytokine based topicals, and daily application of a a hyaluronic acid based moisturizer can increase cell turnover, improve D/E adhesion and start you down the road of life-long proactive anti aging skin care.

Suggested Daily Regimen:

MORNING – Cleanse the skin with a gently cleanser, free of parabens, fragrance & chemical preservatives. Use a Hyaluronic Acid based moisturizer, and if your plans for the day include more than one hour of continuous sun exposure, protect with sunscreen. If you must wear makeup, use a high quality mineral powder.

EVENING – Cleanse the skin twice – once with an oil based cleanser to remove makeup and then again with a gentle antioxidant cleanser.  A gentle exfoliation once per week with a scrub is likely all you need. An eye cream and moisturizer with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory cytokines and B vitamins will help preserve your skin through the night.

When you’re in your 30’s
You should be getting your life together by now. But the stress of career, relationships, marriage and children all add extra challenges to optimum skin health. The 30’s are typically when you begin to notice textural changes and your skin tone may start to become more uneven as pigment stands out more and more in some areas. Pregnancy and child bearing means hormonal imbalances that take their toll if you are not proactive about skin care. Further decline in D/E adhesion, along with a decline in collagen and elastin production can begin to show a laxity or crepiness beginning to creep in. Continue professional Microneedling as often as once per month, and daily “at home” stamping with a .25mm or less stamper will continue to deliver your skin care products, and stimulate the anti aging cascades you need. It may be time to add an occasional light chemical peel from your aesthetician to actively reduce the appearance of fine lines, pigment and aging. Ask your aesthetician about adding a daily retinol type product. She may recommended it. By now you should be increasing water intake to at least 12 ounces more than your regular daily intake.

Suggested Daily Regimen:

MORNING – Your cleanser is now an antioxidant or cytokine based anti-aging cleanser. Continue your eye cream, along with moisturizer with antioxidants and/or anti-inflammatory cytokines. And if you’re planning to be in the sun, use sunscreen and a quality mineral powder for makeup.

EVENING – Same double cleanse, but the 2nd cleanse is your antioxidant or cytokine based anti-aging cleanser.  Daily exfoliation with a scrub, along with daily stamping with a 0.25mm or less at home microneedle stamper will stimulate collagen production and better deliver your products. Night time eye cream is applied, along with a hyaluronic acid based moisturizer with B vitamins.

When you’re in your 40’s
The “indestructability” of your twenties is gradually being eclipsed by the 2nd law of thermodynamics, and your skin can really start to show your age. By now you understand what your mom meant when she railed against aging, and there is a considerable decline in the production of hyaluronic acid, collagen & elastin in your skin. D/E adhesion can begin to breakdown into wrinkled skin and the rate of epidermal cell turnover continues to decline. The protective outer layer of your skin begins to thicken in response to the harsh environment, leaving you looking dull. Microdermabrasions with your aesthetician may need to be a bit more aggressive, a monthly facial is highly recommended, and continued professional microneedling, at home stamping for product delivery, gentle facial (self) massage & light chemical peels can prevent and reduce the signs of premature aging. Extreme splotchy pigment and visible blood vessels especially around the none and cheeks can be treated with Intense Pulsed Light at your dermatologists office or MedSpa, and daily application of retinol type products may be recommended. Increase water intake to 16 or more ounces over your normal daily intake.

Suggested Daily Regimen:

MORNING – Cleanse with a slightly more exfoliating and deeper cleaning AHA cleanser, continue with the eye cream your aesthetician recommends, use a hyaluronic acid based moisturizer and if you plan on being in the sun for extended time, use your sunscreen. And for makeup – a quality mineral powder.

EVENING – Double cleanse as normal.  Exfoliate daily with a scrub.  A facial self massage will invigorate the tissues and increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Use your home stamper to deliver more targeted and skin specific serums as recommended by your aesthetician.

When you’re in your 50’s
The emotional challenges of menopause can be accompanied by challenges to your skin health as well. But if you’ve been following the regimen recommended here, and following the advice of the aesthetician that knows your skin best, your skin is not aging like your mom’s did. But if you’re just starting to really take care of your skin it’s not too late. Modern technology and products can go a long way toward corrective and anti-aging benefits at any age! The 50s bring issues with facial hair, mature sun damage, loss of hydration, the breakdown of D/E adhesion, reduced production of collagen elastin and hyaluronic acid. Dermaplaning can get rid of the hair and exfoliate. A series of 6 microneedling sessions can provide correction for wrinkles and pigment,. And other professional services from your dermatologist or MedSpa may be required to correct the signs of aging in your skin. You may have more sensitivity, so the care of a professional is key to both corrective and anti-aging results. If you have not had a relationship with a skincare professional now is the time to start one! Look for ingredients like anti-inflammatory cytokines, B Vitamins, green tea extract to strengthen skin and lightening brightening ingredients like licorice root, kojic acid, azaleic acid, Vitamin C & cucumber restore a more youthful glow.

Suggested Daily Regimen:

MORNING – Cleanse with an exfoliating AHA cleanser, continue with the eye cream your aesthetician recommends, use a hyaluronic acid based moisturizer with ceramides and if you plan on being in the sun for extended time, use your sunscreen.

And finally, a visit to your esthetician once a month will help you look and feel better while you improve the appearance and health of your skin.
